I bought two more after liking the first so well (Rating: 5.00) Review : I've read the various reviews. I can't comment on the experience of other people, but here's mine. I have a bathroom that can be quite chilly, and I thought I'd see if a Vornado would help. It did. In fact, I liked it so well, that I bought one for my elderly parents, who tend to be cold almost all the time. They use it regularly, both in their TV room, and in the bathroom. It's quite light and easy to transport, so they do. THEN I decided to take my bathroom Vornado to work, since we had some "thermostat wars" going on and my office would suddenly turn frigid because someone else was too warm. It worked again. So I bought a third for the bathroom. Nary a problem. It's quiet. It heats smoothly and circulates the heat as claimed. As a result the room gets gently warmer, not the three feet of space in front of the heater. With three units purchased at different times, I would think I would have come across one of the defective ones that others have complained about, but I have not had that happen to me. I am very pleased. Quiet & Reliable (Rating: 5.00) Review : Use this fan / heater 3 to 5 hours daily for an approx 475 sq foot area. It works awesome quiet and hassle free. Heater was well below expectations (Rating: 1.00) Review : I originally went to the store to buy another Vornado heater that received good reviews on Amazon, however the store only had the DVH in stock and it was on sale, so I went with the DVH, I was excited about bringing it home to heat the living room when I watched TV and my bedroom at night. Well I tested the unit last night in my bedroom ( about 150-200sqft) and it was very disapointing. I live in CA and the temp in my house is around 60 degrees between Dec-Feb, I wanted a heater to heat up my bedroom at night so I could sleep comfortably and I place it in in the bathroom in the morning so I can get out of the shower and not freeze to death. This unit's performance was horrible! I set the DVH on High and set the temp to 72 degrees before I went to sleep, throughout the night the room still felt cold, in the morning I looked at the DVH and it states that the room temp was around 63 degrees! The heater hardly changed the temp of the room the whole night! I then adjusted the temp to 90 degrees and placed the unit in the bathroom, by the end of my shower the room temp was only registering 65 degrees!! I left it on for another hour to test and when I came back the room temp hardly changed, maybe only by a few degrees!!...the heat coming from the DVH was not that hot and the fan did not seem that strong. Needless to say I am returning this heater today! It seems that the quality control at Vornado is not consistent on this heater, some people rave about this heater, yet many others have similar negative experiences like mine. I would recommend staying away from this heater and spend your hard earned money on something better! Hope this review helps! It's hard to believe how well this heater works... (Rating: 5.00) Review : We just moved into a house with a 300+ square foot sun room that is unheated except through a couple of windows and a door through to the house. It was very cold in this room initially, so much so that you couldn't do anything in winter without additional heating. So I thought I'd try a DVH heater to see if it would do the job rather than either ducting into the room or installing baseboard heat. When I got the unit, I was extremely skeptical. It's very small and it's very light, and it doesn't look like it will do anything at all. Well, it's just above zero outside as I write this, and I'm in my sun room that is evenly heated to 70 degrees. And I saved hundreds of dollars over the alternatives. (I purchased the DVH over any other unit because it has a temperature control in degrees, while most [all] other similar units make you guess instead of setting the exact temperature.) In addition to heating the room, it is also so quiet that I can have it sitting right next to me without it bothering me in the least. And the cord and the unit stay cool, which is a big consideration with our two little dogs running into it. You can actually put your hand against the front of the heater when it's going full blast on high power and it's only warm, not hot. The controls are simple also. You press the power switch, set the temperature that you want, and then select whether to use high or low power. And then you're done, you just turn it on or off from that point forward. It then displays the power setting, the room temperature, and the desired temperature continually on the top of the unit. Obviously, I'm very happy with the DVH and I highly recommend it to anyone. I do want to add that it would probably have taken two of the units to completely heat the room to a continuous 70 degrees if it was totally unheated, but it's still much better than the alternatives. While searching for the best price, I came to read the ratings by others on the Amazon site, and it was disturbing for me to see that there was a noticeable disparity among the raters (please look through the reviews and see for yourselves-5 to 1 star). But it sounded great at least for those who had them in working condition, so I decided to give it a try, knowing that there is a chance that I might get the bad apple. Well, I have been using the unit for a while now and I have to tell you that it is worth MORE than its weight in gold!!! It is quite; temperature control is dead accurate; heating is impressively even throughout the room; and it really doesn't get hot at all to the touch; and even looks cool. I have occasional circuit breaker tripping when I use hair drier in the bathroom connected to the same room, but Vornado has not tripped the circuit not even once, even though I usually have it run at 78F when I use it (basically all night). I'm sure others' claims on defective products are valid. But if you are unsure whether to give it a try because of those reviews like I was a few weeks ago, I strongly recommend you give this product a try. Even if you end up with a defective product like others claim, if you can get a good one after exchange (and get something like what I got), it is worth the trouble-and believe me I'm an extremely lazy person when it comes to product exchanges... I only write this review because I wished that I had something like this to help my decision making. Hope it helps you. This could be a good product if the fan could be improved. first of all the VH-1 is the superior product and when you go to buy it ....TEST IT AT THE STORE FIRST!! the two DVH digital heaters did not work upon testing(fans did not spin) and the first VH-1 had loose fins from mishandling during shipping :-( the second VH-1 worked perfect so i took it home :-) i use it to heat my front porch which was designed to be a three season porch originally but i converted it to my personnal den to watch sports and escape from the kids once in a while ...LOL it took 3 hours but the room went (which is 9 feet high by 12 feet long by 8 feet wide) from .5 degrees F to 59 degrees !! it works awesome, is superquiet, and is amazing. i am sure it was not designed for this by hey it is worth every dime i paid for it ( total cost was 69.95 ) up here in new england it is a godsend because it gets darn cold up here ( nights lately have been like -25 to -40 usually) |
