BEST FULL-FEATURED COLOR INKJET. PERIOD. (Rating: 5.00) Review : If you are looking for a desktop printer (not the portable ones such as Canon's i70) then you just cannot get better than this. I include Epson's PhotoPlus 2200 and HP's PhotoSmart 7960, both of which are great printers but Canon wins hands-down in terms of ink longevity, photo quality (on professional photo paper,) and price (you can get deals for 85 USD for instance.) The printer flies with B&W text, e.g., while printing websites off the web browser. The setup is breezy and hassle-free. With PictBridge built in, will connect directly to your digicam for printing on paper -- no need to transfer the file to your computer, then print from Adobe Photoshop etc. For a home printer, given that the Epson, the HP and Canon are more or less the same in picture quality, the most important thing I have realized is that I need to keep ink cartidge replacements in check. Canon blows its competition out of the water in this respect. And that's for the maintenance costs. Even for the upfront costs, this printer is unmatched either by Epson's 2200 or HP's 7960. Highly recommended if you are looking for a full-featured home printer. Good: Bad: In either cases these are not major issues and shouldnt stop anyone from purchasing this unit if your in the sub 100 range for a printer. First, the Canon has a replaceable print head. So if it every wears out or gets clogged you can replace the print head and don't have to toss the whole printer. 2nd, its very quiet - much, much less noisy than that my Epsons. 3rd, the print quality is very, very good. B&W text is laser quality but print speed seemed a little slow (maybe I had it on high quality). Color images print surprisingly fast - faster than on the Epson and Web pages with mixed text and colored items print extremely quickly. 4th, I agree with another reviewer who says the ink cartridges don't have chips in them. So I assume that this printer will continue to let you print if one tank is out of ink. The most annoying thing with Epson is that if you are out of color ink, the printer will not print - not even B&W text until you replace the color ink! I like the design of the printer. You can fold the paper holder in the back forward and it will act as a dust cover to keep the inside of the printer clean. You can also close the front of the printer as an added measure to keep the inside free of dust. The i560 is a little bit more expensive than comparable printers from other brands. However, I believe that the lower cost per page will more than make up for it in the long run. There are individual ink cartridges. And the ink cartridges do not have a smart chip built into them. It might be possible, although I have not tried it, to refill the cartridges yourself if you can find the right ink. However, I think the cost of the ink cartridges for this particular printer is low enough that I would recommend buying only the genuine Canon ink, that way you can eliminate most of the problems that people experience with generic or refilled ink cartridges. I was told that a lot of problems that people have with their ink jets are due to using generic or refilled ink cartridges. I can't imagine any better quality than the 8x10 and 4x6 photos that come from this printer. Using the Canon Pro Glossy paper produces an amazing product. I used some other paper and the quality was not quite as good. I bought more Canon Pro Glossy paper and recommend it highly. Photos developed by Ofoto are fine, but this printer and the right paper outdo the photo lab. |
