5 star value, 2 star tool. (Rating: 3.00)
Review : So really that's 3 and a half stars but I'm giving more weight to the tool than the price. I don't own one of these, my deck building partner does. We build a few decks every summer as side jobs for tool money. We also are both in the middle of remodels, so we've put this tool through the paces. I've used this tool for literally hours over the last few years he's had it. It works, it costs a Franklin instead of almost 2. If you are using it occasionally it will do the job (thinking average homeowner here.) If you use it frequently or if you are a bit of a tool snob (like me) buy a milwaukee. (see my review there) The vibration on this tool is pretty severe in comparison. I don't think the ergonomics are near as good, and for cutting wood... you can't beat orbital action. To sum up, there is nothing "wrong" with this tool, and it's certainly faster than a handsaw. All things considered you are way further ahead buying this than a no-name knock-off for whatever $$. It's just not what I would consider a professional quality tool. I left my sawzall at home today for 2 deck demolitions, had to use this one, and won't make that mistake again. It did the job, it's just not a joy using it like mine.
Great Saw (Rating: 5.00)
Review : This saw is fantastic! I have used and abused this saw. I have cut everything, metal pipe, wood, fencing, even tree roots down in the dirt while trying to loosen a stump. Never had a problem. Keep sharp blades handy though.
Powerful ... cuts anything and everything. (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I have used this saw to cut through metal railings, fences, doors, molding, tree branches ... you name it. The unit is rock solid and reliable. The only problem I have encountered is with the blade lock and release tab. If not properly cleaned, the blade tends to not sit well or release easily from the unit. With a little care and maintenance, this problem is virtually eliminated.
Cut stuff up (Rating: 5.00)
Review : This is a great recip saw. I have used it to cut metal pipes, wood, tree branches (that were growing up against my house), and an old shower. It is plenty powerful and blade changes are easy. The deal I got also came with an extension cord ... The only drawback to the saw is that the shoe is somewhat bulky and can obstruct your vision of the blade with some angles -- which makes it hard to line up a cut. All in all, though, precision cuts aren't generally required with a reciprocating saw, and it's price beats all the competitors easily.
Can't Beat It for the Price (Rating: 5.00)
Review : I've owned this saw for almost two years now and have had no problems whatsoever. 7.5 amps has been more than sufficient for the chores that I've put it through so far such as cutting boards, landscape timbers, rebar, tree roots, general demolition, etc. Of course, make sure you're using the right type of blade for whatever material you're cutting. Cord length is sufficient but probably will need an extension. DeWalt case is definitely an added bonus with plenty of storage for your extra blades. I compared with many other notable brands and I have no regrets going with the DeWalt.
