The Best Shop Addition (Rating: 5.00)
Review : When I received my air filtration system it was in perfect working order. The box looked as though it had been thrown around in shipping quite a bit but you know some of those shipping companies. I hooked it up and hung it from the ceiling with ease.

There is no better air filtration system for the simple fact of the remote control. I have taller ceilings than most modern homes and to pull a chain like you get on all other systems could have been difficult for me. I absolutely love the remote. I keep it near the shop door and turn the machine on when I walk in and do not turn it off till I leave. If I have been sanding a lot I usually run the timer as I leave.

The 650 CFM is plenty for my shop. It measures about 25' x 20'. I have recommended this system to many of my woodworking buddied and they have had absolutely no problems with it either.

I have one friend with the Delta and she is thinking about getting the JET becasue of the extra features it offers over all other systems.

Solid value for the money. An investment you won't regret. (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I have a shop that measures 24'x32' with 10' ceilings. In this shop are a lot of dust-makers. A 15in. planer, an 8in. jointer, a 3hp. shaper, 2 stationary router table set-ups, and my pride and joy, a Delta 10in.,5hp. Unisaw. For years I have put off the purchase of an air filtration unit because none I found seemed worth the price. The Jet unit is definitely worth the price. The unit arrived in perfect condition. No dents, dings, or missing parts. It is light enough for installation to be handled by one person. However, the mounting brackets should be spaced to accomodate standard 16in. framing member spacing. The remote control unit is a dream! I can control the unit from anywhere in the shop. The unit operates very quietly even at the highest speed. But most importantly, the unit does a superb job of cleaning the air. The timer feature is just icing on the cake. This is a very good unit at a VERY good price when compared to Delta and JDS. I'd be surprised if the Delta or JDS units do a better job of cleaning the air. If you are considering the purchase of the Jet unit, go ahead and do it. You won't be sorry.

Very effective piece of gear (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I second other reviewers' comments about the usual high quality of Jet's fit and finish, design features of the equipment, and its effectiveness. Would like it to be quieter but that's a pretty small beef.

Some feedback for Jet would be to pack it in a heavier box with more substantial foam blocks. UPS did a number on mine that didn't look TOO bad on first inspection, but luckily I plugged the unit in and turned it on before I horsed it up and mounted it on the wall of my shop. Squirrel cage had over half an inch of runout due to bending--probably dropped pretty hard--and the whole unit vibrated. I pulled all the guts out of the housing and straightened the squirrel cage, mounting brackets, etc (found one knurled connector only finger tight). After straightening, vibration stopped and all went fine from there on.

Sideways (wall) mounting was best option in my shop and I was able to do it by myself (the unit's not that heavy but is bulky) by drilling holes for lag screws into studs and slipping 10- or 12-penny nails into the holes as temporary hangers for the unit until I could get some lag screws in.

Cleans well. I like the timer option--fire it off and forget it. This thing moves a lot of air even on low setting and also helps shop air circulation while it's cleaning--a particular benefit when you have a shop with a high ceiling and a considerable temperature differential from bottom to top. Very welcome addition; shop stays cleaner and my children and I aren't breathing as much "stuff" in.

Best for the money (Rating: 4.00)
Review : My wife is allergic to just about everything. And since we now share a workshop (she does stained glass work), I researched air filters for quite a while to be sure I got my money's worth. I compared the Jet against the JDS and Delta, and it beats them in terms of remote operation, multiple speed, etc. I considered getting a smaller unit like the shop-vac, because I have a pretty small shop (25 X 18), but decided on the Jet because SOMEDAY I'll have a bigger shop.

I ordered the Jet from Amazon. It took about a week to receive it. I opened the box, and (like others have reported) the unit was damaged--a big dent in the rear right side. I turned it on, and it ran fine, so the problem was cosmetic. Took a rubber mallet to the dent and straightened it out pretty well.

I put the unit in the shop--right now, it's sitting on a couple of saw horses. I'm still trying to decide about the right place to put this thing. I'm leaning toward mounting it on a wall above one of my tool stands (ceilings are pretty low, and I don't want to be banging my head on the air cleaner).

It does a great job of clearing the dust out of the air. Sanding, sawing, routing, it doesn't matter--after five minutes, the air is clear again. I have noticed an increase in the smell of solvents when I'm finishing, but I would imagine that's because I'm not breathing in the wood dust anymore. I haven't found any activated charcoal filters for this unit to remove the solvent odors yet.

Overall, a great unit. Rated with four stars only because Jet should beef up the packaging to prevent damage in shipping.

Does a Great Job (Rating: 4.00)
Review : Like a lot of woodoworkers, I put off buying an air filtration system longer than I should have. It's one of those things that realy should be done BEFORE you begin to set up a shop area. Well, I finally did my research on available machines and decided to buy the Jet. I'm glad I did. It definitely does a terrific job, is relatively quiet, and it mounts easily to the ceiling. The filters are easy to change -- just flip four clips and pull out the filter. The machine is also fairly lightweight, making it easier to mount. The remote control is a great feature, allowing you to turn the machine on and off from a distance, set the "speed" (hi, medium, or low), and set the timer (it has settings for 2, 4, and 6 hours). The timer is a very useful feature, since you can set the machine to run for 2 hours as you're leaving the shop, and you don't have to remember to come back down to turn it off as you do with other machines.

My ultimate test was sanding a large maple table top. I'll describe what it was like doing this before and after I got the Jet system.

BEFORE: My shop measures 30' long by 20' wide. Before I had this machine (when I had no air filtration system at all) whenever I sanded a table top the shop got filled with dust really quickly. Even after I stopped sanding, the dust hung in the air for maybe half an hour. And the next day, I'd come into the shop and see a thin layer of dust settled on everything.

AFTER: Now that I use this machine, the air never gets as dusty as it used to (even in the middle of sanding). Also, within five minutes after I'm done sanding, the air is crystal clear. By leaving the machine on after I'm all done, whatever dust remains is taken care of. The next day, coming into the shop, there is no dust on anything.

* * * * * *

As a final note, I give it four stars because the remote does not allow 360-degree access. But this is a relatively small matter with such a great machine.

Keeps air particle free (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I have been using this machine for about 3 months now and really like it. I have added a furnace filter to the front which seems to extend the life of the other filters. I blow the filters off outside about once a month. I have also tried vacuming the filters off, but that clogs the vacs filter very quickly.

THe only real complaint I have is you can not set the timer on the machine, you must use the remote. No problem for me right now, but I have a feeling that the dust filter will outlast the remote.

Save your lungs .. Excellent air filteration (Rating: 5.00)
Review : Well, This was way bigger than I had expected , so when It arrived I had find a place in garage as my garage is only 7-8 feet tall. Since it is bulky but not heavy, I decided to hang it to ceiling with chain.
Unit was damaged when I opened the box and thought of not returning and waiting to get another one as it was not worth the time.
I cut lot of fine with 80 teeth blade and that creates lot of dust. Also it really helped me while sanding with belt sander.
I loved the remote and also timer feature. I think this is great product and if you want to save your lungs, get this one.
I used to cough after doing 1-2 hours of woodworking but since I installed it, I don't anymore. Thanks to Jet !!..

I guess shipping would have better since unit was damaged on 2 sides.

Overall, excellent buy but make sure you know the size of this unit before you buy ...
