Misnamed, should be called sonic tape (Rating: 2.00) Review : I received this device as a Christmas present and agree with previous reviews... you would be better off using a nice tape measure than this device. On the surface it is appears to be a laser measurement device, but instead it bounces high frequency sound off an object you are measuring to determine distance. The sound is actually audible. It sounds like someone tapping a pencil on a desk. The only reason that the term "laser" is associated with the device, is because it has a built-in laser pointer to tell where you are aiming it. The object you are pointing the device at must be fairly solid, or the sound won't reflect properly. It even states in the user's manual that when measuring something like fabric, to put cardboard in front. As expected, it can't measure through glass, even though the laser can shine through. I have also noticed that objects to the sides of what you are measuring, sometimes get picked up. For instance, I am measuring from my seat to the front of a cabinet. To measure to the wall behind the cabient I must move it over about 6 inches to the side of the cabinet to avoid reading the distance to the cabinet. I have had fun playing with the device, but want people to know that at best, I would use it for estimating measurements. I got this as a gift, but would not have spend that kind of money on a device that only measures down to the nearest inch, and sometimes produces flaky measurements. I say strap an inexpensive laser pointer to a digital tape measure and you would have a much better device. You get what you pay for (Rating: 3.00) Review : I received this as a gift and for my line of work, it works OK. Don't expect exact accuracy, that's not what it is for. It is very good for me on estimates. Sure I get some obvious errors, but if you read the maunal, you will see that most are addressed there. Why would anyone use this to get measurements for cutting trim..??? That is what a tape is for. Great Estimator (Rating: 4.00) Review : I realize now that this item is not for doing professional measurement. It should be used if you need an estimate of a room, floor, wall, ceiling, or any other rough estimate. It is meant to be a time saver. Any reviewer that posts a bad review of this item obviously knows nothing of what they are talking about. They have expectations that far exceed what any product under $100 can offer. Please take my word for it...this item is a must have for tool men/women everywhere. Perfect Estimating Tool (Rating: 5.00) Review : If you are a Real Estate Agent, a Carpenter, or do anything with Painting, Flooring, Wall-paper, etc, then this is the tool! I am a Real Estate Developer and this has become a perfect tool. Whether finding the square footage of a property, or helping to get the estimates on upgrades and improvements such as painting and carpeting, it makes it SIMPLE to get accurate square and cubic footage calculations. This is not for perfect, exact measurements, but is PERFECT for estimating! I recommend this to any DIY'er |
