Great Stand, But You Need To Make A Little Modification (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I became interested in one of these saw stands after seeing one set up in a woodworking store. I was quite impressed with how heavy duty it seemed and particularly with the capacity of the outriggers. So I got one.

After I got it home I read some owner's comments suggesting that the enclosed hardware was crap. I have to agree. I didn't strip any of the bolts out, but it's a wonder. They're too soft, I believe. At least all the necessary hardware was included.

The only other problem has to deal with the stand's inability to be left unattended when it's folded in a semi-upright position. Some folks have suggested kickstands but I decided to work with what was already there: First, I stood the saw upright in the folded condition and let it balance on one leg, blocking the wheel so it wouldn't get away from me. Then, I drilled a hole through one of the hinges where the two flat metal plates overlap when the stand is folded. I then inserted a 5/16" bolt with a plastic handwheel through the hole. With the bolt in position, the stand can't move, even though it's sitting at about a 75 degree angle. I also painted the plastic handwheel dayglo orange so the reason for immobility would catch my eye if I got stupid one day. Now it works great!

As far as using the thing, it's great. I've got a 12" Dewalt CMS on mine. I don't regret buying the stand at all.

Solid, Portable Stand (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I just recently purchased this stand and a Hitachi 10" Compound Sliding Miter Saw. So far, the it functions quite nicely. It is very stable, folds easily, and rolls smoothly (though it could use a kick stand for storage against a wall). The support rollers function well.

The box the stand came in was torn, the auxiliary table was damaged after falling thru the hole. In order to get it to mount, it was necessary to hammer the guide rails back into place and file them flat.

Setting up the stand proved to be a little challenging, as all of the pictures in the manual are grainy and blurry. The list of parts provided is not complete, as the bolts, lock washers, and nuts for attaching some of the componets were not listed.

As one of the other reviewers noted, it is possible to mount a Hitachi Slider and use the auxiliary table, if the mounting rail nearest the wheels is pushed forward (so the rear wheel clears) and is set at an angle towards the saw (so the front wheel clears). The bolts included with the stand will not allow enough clearance for the saw. The saw can be attached with three 1/4" carriage bolts (two 1 1/2" long bolts for the front, one 1" bolt for the back). The 1/4"x1" washers included with the stand are too large, replace them with 1/4"x1/2".

I have also used the Dewalt DW723. While a nice stand, I prefer the Delta model. The DW723 does not have wheels, and it is necessary to remove the saw from the stand when moving it around.

This is an excellent stand, I will update this review after more extended use.

Bought It, Assembled It, Love It (Rating: 5.00)
Review : UPDATE - 5/30/03
Been using my stand of over 1.5 yrs now. Marvelous. Great stand. Never a problem. Still solid as a rock. Highly recommend this stand. makes lugging these big saws around that much easier. Now, I need to buy those foldable ramps for my pickup truck so I can get it in the back easier.

Got it today. The UPS guy was whining, but I can't blame him. At 85 lbs, you gotta have the weight for the necessary stability. With my Porter Cable 12" saw, I don't even want to know how much the package weighs. It is very stable, and shows no signs of "loosey-goosey" that I was afraid of.
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS to a "T" when assembling. I just finished, and it took me only 2 hours. Not bad, since I have the larger saw and needed to take out the fiber board, and assemble the rails. They are very solid, and seem to hold the saw very well.
I had no issues during assembly. All screws fit, were there, and didn't strip. The 10mm socket they included didn't fit anything, so have one of those available. I wish they would have put a list of needed tools at the beginning of the directions as well. (Phillips, hammer, 10mm, 11mm, and 8mm sockets, hex wrenches, tape measure, adjustable pliers.
The rear leg stabilizers are an obvious "lawyer" addition (probably the result of a lawsuit from a poorly assembled tip-over). With a properly placed saw, I'm not even certain they are needed. (I have them in place anyway.)
I'm sure it will be tough to get in and out of my truck, up stairs, etc. But, after carrying the saw alone down the stairs to where I assembled the stand, I can't imagine it being any more cumbersome.
Only complaint is method to fold and unfold. I'm sure there is a technique, and I'll find it, but until then, watch your fingers.
If you're thinking about one of these, stop thinking and get one. Afterall, it's only money. :-)

Almost five full stars (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I received this item from FedEx last week in better than expected shape after reading prior reviews. The box was in very good condition for its shape and weight. The table arrived two days before expected so I unpacked it to assemble it right away. The assembly is pretty straight forward and it takes about an hour to get it assembled. Since I had read the reviews about people breaking the bolts that secure the handle, I downloaded the product manual for the size of these bolts and purchased heavier ones prior to the arrival of the package. When I started to assemble the saw stand it was clear what the complaint was. Those bolts reminded me of the lag bolts you get with a black iron privacy fence hinge kit. I have probably twisted the heads off a hundred of those things! The rest of the hardware is acceptable for its purpose though. The Porter Cable 3802L 12" compound miter saw that I bought this stand for fits nicely on the rails that are supplied for the larger saws. Now keep in mind that P-C and Delta are owned by the same parent company, and that the saw I own is almost an exact clone to the Delta twin laser saw. This concerns me because they clearly did not design this stand to accommodate either of these saws along with the supplied table/fence extension with the stock stop feature. The wide footprint of this saw and countless other 12" miter saws simply leaves no room for this extension to be installed. I never planned to use the extension (my table and fence is big enough especially with the rollers at both ends) so it's no great loss, but if I had I probably would have shaved off another star. The real reason this saw gets only 4 stars is that when you mount a larger saw on the stand, it seems that your mounting rails always land right over one of the cord holder brackets so I had relocate them. Other than these small quirks, this is the best stand for ruggedness and mobility. Those 13" tires are very impressive. If only they has raised white letters!

Contractor loves his Delta 50-155 Universal Miter Saw Stands (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I am a remodeling contractor and I have several of these stands now one on every truck
My last saw stand came in 3 days (quickest yet) in perfect shape like I carried it out of the store myself; the UPS guy even put it in my basement for my wife, not like you can really blame delta on how your package is treated in transit I would have given this saw stand 5 stars if they just had more info on how to modify the stand to accept all saws, overall it's a very easy stand to assemble and with a few simple modifications you can fit any saw with fence extension the instructions and several reviews tell you that you CAN NOT use it with some saws because of the lack of room which is incorrect with a few simple cuts and adjustments you can fit almost any saw 10" or 12" and still use the extension fence and cord wrap (oh and by the way those black bolts are junk Delta should know better than that they need some hardened bolts for me to hang my saws from them )I have a saw and stand on every truck now and we have several different saws from Makita to porter cable to my personal 12" Dewalt compound slide and every one of them has the extension fence. I also have one stand in my shop that with the change of the MDF board I have made it into a Shaper stand or a planer stand with a simple change of boards. I also liked the suggestion of extra set of wheels, I myself used a lawnmower axle and wheels in the holes on the handle end, But most of all the biggest problem I had with the stand was there was no way to store it in the standing position, well I took care of that also by adding a Kick stand as one reviewer said and it functions very well all of which I believe Delta could add into their instructions or perhaps hire me as a consultant on their products I would be happy to help as with anybody that would like to know how to modify their stand just ask me ill help in any way I can since I have mounted 5 different brands of compound miter saws only one of which was a 10" all others were 12"mitre saws 2 kinds of routers and one surface planer all to the same Delta Universal Miter Saw Stand thank you for your time,,,. the_st4lker@hotmail.com

Too small for big saws... (Rating: 4.00)
Review : This is a well made unit for the price. I have used mine for about 8 months on the jobsite, and in the shop.

The only problem I have with this stand is it is not designed to fit the big saws (12 inchs) Delta, or otherwise. You have to remove the MDF table that is used for mounting, and then reverse the setup using the provided rails. If you do not reverse the setup, the side with the wheels attachted will not close up for movement.

This unit is quite combersome with my big Delta attached, but does a good job of rolling, and is very steady when set up.

The out riggers are nice for working with long lengths of materials.

I would highly recommend this unit for the price.

Happy Customer - Easy to Use. (Rating: 5.00)
Review : The only complaint I have with my stand is I bought it shortly after Delta released it and I paid too much.

It did take longer to assemble than I expected but the handbook was reasonably well written and led me through the process. This stand is well designed and full of little features you discover through use. The cord storage rack on the back is simple and adds a lot of utility to the stand. Simple spring loaded levers make setup and breakdown simple and the stand is sturdy in the setup configuration (on reasonably level surfaces). I will say that changing configuration can be a handful with my heavy 12" Delta saw on the stand; but it is one of those things you just learn to do.

I recently helped my son frame up a large storage shed on his property. He is a construction superintendent and has access to a lot of neat toys. After watching me drag the stand out of my pickup, roll it over to his slab and set it up in about one minute he just said "Cooollll". That about says it!
