BEWARE (Rating: 1.00) Review : I returned the Indigo Intec Gamecube screen I purchased at Best Buy a few days ago. Unless you sat directly in front of the screen, images and colors blurred to the point where games were almost unplayable- dual play was out of the question! In addition, the unit pictured on the box clearly had two earphone jacks and the screen in the box had only one. I called Intec, Inc in Miami and explained my problem and my concern that perhaps I'd purchaed an older unit. To my astonishment, the gentleman assured me that I had the most recent Intec screen, and yes, the older screens had a much sharper picture and had two earphone jacks. This is the first time I've ever encountered an electronics firm actually dumbing down the same product and keeping the same model number even as the techology screams ahead. I've since found a 2002 5.6" Intec screen (same Model #!) with much superior video, sound and controls at Toys-R-Us that works great. Bottom line is BEWARE of what you're buying, especially since Intec doesn't seem to change the model number even though the product is very different. There are still some of the older models out there. I would difinitely avoid any of their screens if the end flap on the box says 2003 or newer. the result are in folks...This screen rocks!! (Rating: 0.00) Review : Not bad, not bad at all. After finishing up about a week of online / in-person research, I've concluded that the Intec 5.6" screen is the best portable screen currently available for the gamecube. I learned about how competing screen produce poor refresh rates that contribute to blurring of games that are more fast pace and have a higher frame per second count. Other screens also have color bleeding problems and poor resolution, not to mention- smaller screens and no color / brightness controls. Well, guess what? this ones got all the options (dual headphone outputs too) and the best quality. Yeah its a little expensive- you probably wont find it for much under $150 after shipping / taxes are all said and done- but its worth it! Its no joke that the 5.6" version rivals TV quality images. The TFT screen is phenomenal- brightness and color setting allow maximum flexibilty for the best viewing experience possible. Because the screen will allow for any video input- it can also be used as a stand alone TV (with base!) when hooked up to a vcr, a tape player, a dvd player, a computer screen...the list goes on. all that for $150! Also, I was impressed (as were many others who reviewed this screen) with the speakers- they werent necessarily hi-fi, but they are plenty loud. The reason it lost a star was because- Otherwise, i think anyone would be very satisfied with their purchase. This screen comes with a cigatrette lighter adapter that will not only power the screen, but the actual gamecube too! This intec screen is also nice beacuase it uses the actual gamecube power pack (which can be a bad thing if you want to use it as a stand alone screen for other uses)- but it makes for a nice, neat package when attached to the gamecube. Its only about 1" thick, very sturdily built, nice fitment (doesnt obstruct the gc handle). The screen comes with a static cling protective film that uncovers the flawless display cover. When you go on the hunt to purchase this screen, i reccommend you wpend the extra $5 - $10 and buy it at your local toys'r'us or game shop. Why? for a few reasons- 1) ive heard that a lot of these screens have problems, if yours does, it would suck to have to pay for shipping to and from the online company to get a replacement. 2)because intec is a bit on the slick side- they tried to pull a fast one- what they did was they made the 5" and 5.4" versions have the same upc and price as the 5.6" screen. theres no way for manufacturers to differentiate except for- if they were to look at the actual box (which actually says 5.6"). this greatly improves your chances of getting stuck with a 5" or 5.4" (which have many problems). At least when you go to the store- you can make sure that the actual box reads "Intec 5.4" Color Game Screen" The toys'r'us return policy sucks, they told me that i could return the item within 45 days IF it wasn't opened (its packaged in one of those hard to open plastic mold cases that are nearly impossible to open without ruining). And guess what else? they wont even refund store credit, all they can do is exchange the screen for the same exact one. But dont let that bug ya, as long as you get one that works good, you wont want to bring it back anyway! This is the best screen for the Gamecube! It maybe small but you |
