Great Entry-Level Machine For Its Price (Rating: 5.00)
Review : ...I am extremely happy with the Sony 315B. This is a great entry-level player for those who are simply trying to switch from those old VCRs to the DVD. There are no fancy features such as Progressive Scan - but who would notice the difference if your old television still requires an RF modulator to connect to the DVD player? I still have many friends and relatives who refuse to upgrade their TVs because it is simply working fine. For these people, the Sony is a huge improvement over the VCR. I have given 8 of these Sonys to friends and relatives for X'mas and they all love it.I have owned my machine for almost a year and it works great. What I especially liked about it was the ability to play DVDRs and VCDs. It is basically a workhorse - plays hours of DVDs without digital "breakout" or any other noticeable problems. I must admit that there might be some "lemons" out there since all DVDs are massed produced. But Sony always stands by their warranty - though I have never had problems with my player. That is why I buy this player as a gift for friends and family - can't beat the value and brand name...
Cannot play Disney DVD (and some others) (Rating: 1.00)
Review : I bought a brand new Finding Nemo DVD, 3 times, from 3 different places, and the dvd player would have problems playing it. The screen color would fade in and fade out, it was just terrible. I bought another brand new disney cartoon, same problem. The only DDVD i can play without any problem is "Lord of the Ring". Man, i will NEVER buy any Sony stuff ....at least not the low end DVD player.
A Very Good Unit (Rating: 5.00)
Review : I bought mine when the first Lord of the Rings movie came out on DVD, so I have had it a while. So far it has been great. I do not want anything fancy; I just put in the DVD and watch the movie. I also have many concert DVD's, which look and sound great through my very good stereo system. I have had no problems playing concert DVD's and choosing specific songs from the menu. Also, mine has played CDR's many times with no problem. It is a very good basic unit.
Nice player - Sony finally adds MP3 capability (Rating: 4.00)
Review : This is a good solid basic player witha few features that you actually can and will use. Plays DVDs well, no issues to speak of (yet) and it offers component outputs in addition to regular outputs. It plays DVD, CD, CD-R(W), and my favorite, decodes MP3. The MP3 software work just like a normal CD player (track numbers and all that), so you don't have to have the monitor on to play MP3s. It does have a nice GUI if you do want to use the monitor, though. Nice added touch. I've enjoyed the unit so far, but since it's a newer model, I will post again if I have additional comments. Only 4 stars because it most of its features are operated from the remote only :(. Don't lose that remote.
Great when it works... (Rating: 2.00)
Review : I got it for the price and the styling. It looks great. Best looking one I could find actually. I was only looking for a basic DVD player, so I have no insight into any of it's special features, lacking or otherwise. I actually like the remote. However, I have a SONY TV, so that may be why I haven't encountered any problems with it. The unit worked just fine until now though. It's been around a year now, maybe more maybe less, but I've lost the receipt by now anyways so I can't check for warranty. It's stopped spinning properly. Which is pretty pathetic IMO. I have CD players that have lasted for YEARS with never a problem. While this unit looks great, the "SONY Quality" is obviously no longer there...
