| Zyliss Comfort Salad Spinner with Storage Lid, White From Amazon (US) for $20.99 |
Great Product Downgraded Because of Acrylic Bowl (Rating: 3.00) Review : I bought this Zyliss Salad Spinner with a blue top and a storage lid as a present. I already own and love a Zyliss Salad Spinner with a stainless steel bowl (5 stars). The picture is inaccurate, the bowl is not translucent as shown. The bowl is made of completely transparent acrylic. I have two complaints about the use of acrylic: (1) the offensive smell when you first open the lid and (2) acrylic storage containers tend to break or crack when dropped. The "Features" section does state the bowl is transparent. The "Amazon.com Review" provides the following information: "transparent bowl made of light but rugged plastic." It also says the storage lid is transparent when it is actually translucent. Even the salad spinner labeled "translucent" under other variations is described as having a transparent bowl. The pictures of the White and Lime variations show the true bowl. Because you cannot examine the product as you could in a retail store, the pictures and descriptions need to agree and accurately depict the procuct. No kitchen should be without one (Rating: 4.00) Review : Have had two of these salad spinners for several years, and hands down, they are the best I have ever used. You can easily wash and spin a full head of lettuce due to its large capacity. It only takes about 3 pulls and your lettuce is dry - the centrifugal force is so strong it actually piles the lettuce against the sides and leaves a big empty spot in the center of the bowl. I also like that I can turn the lid over on my counter and place the inner basket on it while I am rinsing the leaves before I spin them. The extra water bunches up on the lid instead of my counter. The reason I only gave this product a 4 instead of a 5 is that the string on one of my spinners broke in two places, making it inoperable. The lid is impossible to get apart to replace the string, so I will have to purchase another lid. I also recently purchased an Oxo Good Grips spinner and took it back because it just wasn't as good as this one. The leaves of my lettuce were quite a bit wetter and I didn't get that centrifugal force effect like with the Zyliss. The Oxo also has a large protusion sticking into the basket from the lid, so you can't turn it over and put your inner basket on it while you are washing the greens. 1. The Oxo doesn't come with a storage lid. I find myself using the Zyliss to dry the lettuce, then I can either pour the lettuce into the bowl (taking the basket out) or just leave the basket in. Ragardless, what I can do in either case is place the storage lid on top to keep everything fresh until the next time I use it. The lid is an extra purchase for the Oxo. 2. The Zyliss is more fun (at least in my opinion). The movement is much like starting a lawnmower, yanking on the cord. The Oxo is more boring, pushing a single button. I don't have a dishwasher, so I can't provide input concerning which is better in the dishwasher, but I find washing the Zyliss in the sink to be a breeze. |
