Would be a 5 star item . . . or maybe will be . . . (Rating: 3.00)
Review : when I find a saw blade that gives me the quality cut I want without kicking back on everything. I bough a Freud anti-kickback and it's the worst of the bunch I've tried. I think maybe it's got something to do with the low rpm's. I'm wondering if the teeth on today's high quality saw blades aren't ground for higher speed saws. I didn't actually buy this saw, although I was considering it. However, I ran across the same saw in the 18V. version on sale at [local store]... So I bought the low horse version. So far, because it came with two batteries, I have absolutely no complaints with power or battery life As far as I can tell, the only difference between the two is battery voltage. So, only advantage to paying all those extra bucks would be a few more minutes of usage between charges, most likely. I can live with what I've got. I wanted a high-quality lightweight saw that I could move from small job to small job easier than my Dewalt 706. This saw fills the bill. It's high quality and very accurate right out of the box. Lineup was dead on. After checking alignment, all I had to do was charge the batteries and go to work. Only complaint I have is that I haven't been able to find a blade that I like (Blade that came with it is the best I've found), and Makita dealers aren't very good about stocking accessories either locally or on-line. Kinda makes me wonder what I'm going to run into if and when I need service.
Not bad for a Makita (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I fell in love with this saw from the beginning and even more so with use. However, I knew from the get go that this was not my DW708. Keeping this in mind, this saw is quite wonderful for doing small trim jobs, punch work, etc. Feed rate must be kept relatively slow because of rpm and tooth count of the blade, but the cut quality is superb and the slide is legendary Makita smooth. My praise for this tool does not come lightly, as my truck is filled with black and yellow, and this saw is the only teal thing on it!
