Can't live without it! (Rating: 5.00)
Review : I am a fan of medium rare meat. I don't overcook pork. I cook and bake a lot! After standing at the stove trying to stir a creme anglaise with one hand while holding my "instant read" thermometer with the other, I finally figured out that I could just drop the probe into the pot and set the alarm. I still have to stir, but I can do things with the other hand and not be watching the pot as closely. I have recipes that require that you maintain a temperature range of 165-180 degrees, so I just set the alarm at 175 and can attend to two things at a time. I wish that they would make one for candy and frying, but for the roasting, baking and cooking that I use it for now, it's great! I also use it as a timer without the probe. It folds flat and has a magnet, so I stick it onto the fridge next to my KA mixer and time my mixing. My house is pretty large, but I can hear the alarm all over the house, it's definitely loud enough. If you are a serious cook or just a beginner trying to get the hang of roastin, you shouldn't be without this.

No Guessing (Rating: 5.00)
Review : Have used my Taylor digital for a chicken and a pork loin, what a differance. Knowing the exact internal temperature is a huge plus. I have usually over cooked and ended up with dry food. This time it was moist and perfectly done. Thanks Taylor and Thank You Amazon.

No More Guess Work (Rating: 5.00)
Review : For anyone who tosses a coin to figure out if the roast is done-those days are over. Get the meat: Beef, chicken, pork, lamb, fish the way you want it: Rare, medium/rare, medium or well done. From hamburgers to filet mignon, from roast beef to ham, you'll get perfect results. Use it to test the temperature of your hot water. Use it to check your oven or refrig temperature. I use it in my smoker to barbeque low & slow. Use multiple meat probes for different items you're cooking in the same oven. Etc. Etc. Use the meat probes with attached wire with care! Don't slam the oven door on the wire. Don't store the probe/wire in a junk draw where it can get pinched/damaged...
How did I cook without you (Rating: 5.00)
Review : This digital device is the ultimate thing of beauty. As everyone knows, oven temperatures are imprecise so how do you know when your food (esp. meat) is done. The answer is use this product. The metal probe is designed to be inserted into a piece of meat with the ovenproof wire connecting it to the thermometer which must stay outside of the oven. The magnetized base allows the thermometer to be stuck right outside of the oven. When the meat reaches the target temperature, it will let out an alert. The end result is beautifully cooked meat to the desired level of "doneness." I recommend undercooking by about 5-10 degrees since there will be carryover cooking time (assuming you rest the meat). The device is amazingly easy to use. If you can program a digital watch, you can figure this gadget out. It also has a timer function in case you are working on two dishes at once.
Taylor Digital model 1470 (Rating: 2.00)
Review : Bought this to get accurate measurements of hot liquids and foods. Has a lot of potentially useful features like countdown timer and target temperature setting and even magnets to mount of the stove if required. However, the main purpose of this is to display the temp, and that it does not do accurately enough. My unit is off by 4*F, on the low side. A good and easy test is to measure boiling water - it should read 212*F. This one just made it to 208*. As well, the unit could use a little quicker update times. My Pyrex digital is very accurate showing 212* in boiling water and makes updates much more often. I sent an email to Taylor customer service. Their reply is that it is within their spec. A warning: their tolerance is +/-11*F in the 158* to 320* range. I don't know about you but I would not want to roast a turkey with this unit with a target temp of 180* and have it say done when it was only 169* and still considered "within specs"!
