An absolutely outstanding source of information! (Rating: 5.00)
Review : I bought this book with my first pregnancy and loved reading every word of every week's information! There were always questions that I had regarding my pregnancy. If I wasn't due for a doctor's appointment for weeks, I would just pick up my book and find the answer almost immediately! Also, when I had an appointment with my doctor coming up, I had relevant questions to ask and he was pleased to know that I was "doing my homework." While I frown on those who become obsessive readers while pregnant and forget to enjoy the miracle happening inside of them, I loved reading this book! It was informative enough, yet reassuring enough to know that I didn't need to read any other book to ease my mind about anything! Now that I am pregnant with my second child, I look forward to each week's information. I find myself reading a couple of weeks ahead so I know when my baby will be developing what. I also like to practicaltiy of this book. In various weeks, the size of the fetus is compared to everyday objects -- green peas, pinto beans, green olives, softballs, etc. I am as anxious to read during this pregnancy as I was during the first -- if not more!

I highly reccommend this book to any pregnant woman. You'll not want to put it down!

If you only buy one pregnancy book, this is it! (Rating: 5.00)
Review : The pregnancy book market seems to be monopolized by "What to Expect...." However, "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" is a far better buy. I found this book about five weeks into my pregnancy and haven't picked up "What to Expect" since. This book is far more detail-oriented and relevant to weekly and daily aspects of pregnancy. It tells you things that you never learn from "What to Expect," such as the amazing "double in size" that your baby experiences during the seventh week. It makes me feel much more aware of what's happening with my baby.

The book devotes roughly ten pages of information for each week of pregnancy from Week 3 through Week 40. The information is very informative and specific to each week. It includes extra articles about such topics as nutrition, medication during pregnancy, skin changes, and exercise. It also includes pages for you to write down things you need to tell your obstetrician, and contains a sample first-OB-visit questionnaire that proved invaluable to my husband and I as we prepared for our first doctor's visit.

Each week also includes a picture of what your baby looks like, including "actual size" drawings during the early weeks. I found it very interesting to find out my baby's approximate size and weight.

My husband and I have read this book together every week of our pregnancy. It has meant so much to both of us to see how our baby is progressing each week, instead of each month. He especially appreciates the "Dad Tips" found in every chapter. This book has become an important part of our pregnancy, and it will for you, too!

Best Book I've Found (Rating: 5.00)
Review : I read about 4 different books and searched every web-site about pregnancy this is. This was the best I found. The week-by-week format is great, I knew what was actually happening to my baby every week, not just sometime during this month. The book also answered most of my questions. I think it is the best book out about pregnancy right now.

A wonderful book to read (Rating: 4.00)
Review : I loved this book. It was very useful in learning about my pregnancy. I read this book cover to cover. Each week it gave you more information with out flooding your mind with to much to soon. I liked how I was able to read how I was changing and the baby was growing each week. I recommend this book to eveyone. I am on my second pregnancy and I have continued to read this book through out this pregnancy as well. I started from the beginning and read one week at a time and It has helped me understand so much even in the second pregnancy.

FORGET WHAT TO EXPECT - THIS IS THE BEST (Rating: 5.00)
Review : Forget What to Expect When You are Expecting - this book has a much better layout and is more thorough on the baby and your body's development. It takes you through each week - even if you go past your due date, so it is easy to stay on top of major milestones - What to Expect only goes by the month so you miss a lot of detail. Also, the information included is more up to date. I also liked how the book presents all sides to an issue (i.e. caffeine consumption, appropriate weight gain, etc.)so you can make an informed decision of your own. I loved this book and would highly recommend it to any first time moms.

There is a reason this is in the bargain bin!!! (Rating: 1.00)
Review : When I was pregnant my insurance company actually sent me this book--I never would have spent anything for it. The male author of this book adopts a condescending tone that, as an intelligent woman looking for information, I resented. He medicalizes birth, and ignores the need for empowerment of women in an arena that belongs to us. Not a single mention of current trends in childbirth such as birth centers, water birth, midwives, doulas (or, heaven forbid a HOME BIRTH!!)...If you are looking to be empowered with knowledge for a rewarding pregnancy and childbirth experience, I recommend anything by Penny Simkin or Sheila Kitzinger. (the authors my midwive recommended to me)

Wonderful book! (Rating: 5.00)
Review : This book was recommended to me by my sister-in-law, and I just love it. Now when I have a friend that is pregnant, I send her this book to read. Very informative, and if you are impatient like me, very nice as it leads you through week by week, instead of month by month. I loved telling my family and friends, "my baby has eyelashes this week" or " my baby is six pounds on average this week." I truely enjoyed this book, and recommend it to everyone. The end of the book did not have TONS of info on the baby, but instead had info on labor and delivery and the hospital stay. This book is wonderful!!! P.S. My husband liked the dad tips, too. Made him feel a part of the pregnancy.

Don't Waste Your Money (Rating: 1.00)
Review : The information in this book you can easily access anywhere else, both on-line and in better written books. Some estimations of size of fetus, etc. are not accurate. Most importantly, the section on labor and delivery is right out of the 1960's. Frankly, the tone of this text is absolutely insulting. I think I can decide for myself whether I prefer to have an enema before delivery or have my pubic hair shaved, regardless of what a hospital's routine procedure may be. Dr. Glade's point of view is that the obstetrician and assisting nurses make the final decision on all matters, stating that "there are two patients to consider". Yes, and the one that is an adult is the one that will be making the decisions. Expectant and new mothers (and their partners) need to know they have a right be consulted on the delivery and care of their newborn.
