| Metrokane Houdini 2804 Lever-style Corkscrew, Blue From Amazon (US) for |
Good and cheap (Rating: 4.00) Review : The Houdini cork screw is sturdy, does its job well, and best of all it's cheap. The foil cutter is useful so you dont have to open the foil with a sharp nice. A great utensil for wine drinkers. Bulky Contraption (Rating: 3.00) Review : It opens wine bottles well enough, but then so has every other wine opener that I have ever owned. This one looks cool doing it, though. It requires some force to throw that lever over, so I wouldn't recommend it for the frail. It puts a bit of torque on the bottom of the bottle, causing me to worry that it is going to slip and take out some glassware. It doesn't work well with plastic corks. The foil cutter is of poor quality. It takes up a lot of room in a drawer. Metrokane Houdini Corkscrew! (Rating: 5.00) Review : I haven't had to use this corkscrew often, as my fiance and I both drink very little wine. When I have used it though, it has worked WONDERFULLY! It uses leverage to open the wine bottle instead of the old pull and yank and twist method I had to use when working in an upscale restaurant many years back. I've never had a broken cork while using this opener - which is a wonder! This opener is a little bit large and takes quite a bit of storage space in my kitchen drawers.. but that's the only fault I can find with it! I highly recommend! It's a decent deal for the price (Rating: 3.00) Review : I've used a similar corkscrew from Brookstone which cost about $40 and I bought this one for $10. For $10 it ain't too bad but it's no way as good as the one from Brookstone. The one at Brookstone is mostly metal while this one is mostly plastic. The Houdini works well despite it being mostly plastic. Also, the Houdini is not as attractive as the two tone one from Brookstone. The one I got is black completely. Not too eye catching but it does what it suppose to do. Bottomline: for the price it's a good corkscrew that gets the job done. Corks come out in one piece---what more can you ask? (Rating: 5.00) Review : I bought this as a gold box offer because I was tired of the old cork screws (the ones with the arms that you use to pull a cork). I've had to many cork failures with all the other types I've used. This unit makes it easier to hit the middle of the cork every time. All you do is grab the top of the bottle is grip of the opener, and lift the arm. This drives the screw into the cork for you. Then you just push down on the same lever and the cork comes out---intact (every time for me). It sometimes requires a slight pull, but this is minor. It also comes with a foil cutter, which works well also. Thank you Archimedes! (Rating: 5.00) Review : I just can't get over how easy this corkscrew is to use. Instead of having to pull the cork from the bottle, you use lever action to do all of the work for you. Since switching from a tradition corkscrew, I haven't had a single cork break or get stuck in the bottle. Also, since you need less of the 'screw' in the cork, I haven't had any cases where the corkscrew went through the entire cork, meaning no little bits of cork in the wine. The only thing I can think of to improve this product would be some way to secure the two handles for storage. They tend to stick out quite a bit, which takes up a lot of space and since they are spring loaded, if you close them and put them in a drawer they spring out and make getting it out of the drawer a challenge. I solved the problem by simply using a rubber band, but someone clever enough to come up with such an innovative design should be able to solve such a trifling problem. |
