Review(s)

An excellent jump drive, but limited by what it is. (Rating: 4.00)
Review : This JumpDrive is an excellent device, but it's limited by being a USB 1.x device.

SPEED:

Slow. It takes me about 2 minutes and 20 seconds to move 100MB of small files to the drive. But, it's a USB 1.X device, so this is to be expected. If this speed is not acceptable, then there is a USB 2.0 version of the device that should be more satisfactory.

DESIGN:

Overall, it's a very nice little gadget. The case is translucent so you can see the chip that all of your documents are being stored on and it fits nicely in your hand. The key ring is on the body and not the cap of the device (the cap being just a slide on protector), which makes it easy to carry around. In addition there is a write-protect switch on the side of the device, and there is a green "busy" light that flashes when information is being accessed or written to the device.

There's not much to say about it other than that. It detected and ran instantly when plugged into a windows XP machine and Win98SE was an easy install after you get the driver from the Lexar website.

My favorite gift to friends these days (Rating: 5.00)
Review : I initially bought this to transfer files from computer to computer, but I ended up storing many of my favorite mp3s, digital pictures, and some documents and carrying this little thing around to have at my disposal whenever I needed them.
I love this thing's size, a little shorter than a stick of gum and about the width of a pen. I was able to keep in my pocket without an unsightly bulge.
A closed loop at its end makes it easy to attach to a key-ring.
A light light's up when the computer is writing or reading to/from it. Just remember to not remove it from the USB port while this light is on, and your information and files are secure.
I'm not a "techy" but from personal use, it seems that that the read/write time is fast enough. When it was full of 120MB of mp3s (you can't store more than that for some reason), it took about 2 minutes to transfer back to my desktop.
Since this is a re-writable "drive" you don't have to buy more than a couple. I think that the ones smaller than 128MB will not be of muc benefit in the longrun. 128 is good, but 256 is the best, and the prices are dropping.

The 'Super Floppy' (Rating: 5.00)
Review : The Iomega drive used expensive media and many computer's didn't have one. The LS120 format never caught on. CD-R & CD-RW can be a pain when you're only recording small programs. Also, CD's are larger and normally require that you carry them around in their own protective case. These are some of the reason's why the Floppy Disk has hung around soooo long. So what's the product that may finally supplant the venerable Floppy Disk (Dell has already made floppies an option on many of their computers)? I think that you're looking at it.

I own this Lexar 128 JumpDrive and think it's performance/price ratio is awesome. Almost every modern computer has a USB input, so this solves the format/compatibility problem. The size is extremely small and durable, which makes product excellent for transporting. USB 1 is good for about 10MBPS, so you can fill up all 122.5MB of this drive in a couple minutes (yeah, it's not quite 128MB as you'd be lead to believe). Finally the software/drivers (5MB download if you have Win 98) work like a charm.

This is an excellent product solution and if you are looking for any negatives, these are the only items I would consider worth pointing out: drive is not quite 128MB, some larger EXE files are larger than 122.5MB and therefore will not fit on this drive, and finally, although unit is very compact, the dimensional width of the JumpDrive may suck up 2 USB ports in horizontal USB configurations (e.g. - your notebook).

Insanely useful! (Rating: 5.00)
Review : I've kept this in my pocket for four months now with no problems. It solves all my "sneakernet" needs. I've carried stuff from work to home, mac to pc. I threw away six 100meg zip drives from my office because the jumpdrive made them obsolete. Sorry Iomega!

Nice Drive (Rating: 5.00)
Review : I have used this drive for about a year. It's great for transfering files from a Mac to a PC. You get 120MB of usable memory. It did just fail me, but I sent it in for repairs and got it back in 5 days. It will take longer to transfer and delete a whole bunch of small files (like jpegs) than large files. Overall, I have found this a very useful device.

Not as Good as Other Drives (Rating: 1.00)
Review : The price seemed right on this drive but performance is lacking. Like other thumb drives, it simply plugs into the back of your computer and becomes an instant hard drive.

This drive, however is poorly designed. The cap fits in only one direction, the pocket clip (attached to the cap) pushes the cap off if used, there is no included extension cable, there is no point for attaching to a neck cord, key chain etc.

I have also had trouble with performance. I can't seem to get more that about 95MB onto this thing without is complaining that the drive is full. This might be a bad chip but a manufacturer that lets an item out with more than a 25% shortage is probably not one you really want to deal with.

Take my advice and look for other drives (my current preference is by GE).

Check MSRP at casio's website (Rating: 1.00)
Review : Maybe it is a different product (picture is somewhat different), but the product name is the same ... on Casio's web site is says this will be available in AUGUST 2004 (i.e. not for a couple of weeks) at a MSRP of 29.99!!!??? (Amazon price on web site = 39.99)

My ONE star reflects this - not the product itself.
